Tucked away on a tiny Soho street sits Attica, London's temple of the impenetrable velvet rope, where fashion goddess Donatella Versace recently gathered several hundred of her devotees. Access is invitation-only to this low-ceilinged, L-shaped sanctuary of chic that designer Matt Rawlinson has infused with disco spirit: Black walls, black floors, black leather Mies van der Rohe-style couches, and small cube tables lit from within. The bar, covered in Italian white onyx, spans the entire length of the club, where a DJ presides over the tiny dance floor under a glittering mirrored ball. Booths large enough for thirty are separated by glass walls, enabling guests to keep their eyes out for the likes of Robert De Niro, Hugh Grant, Kate Hudson and Kate Winslet. Feeling flush? Sip the rare 1990 Roederer Cristal, Attica's sacred nectar-of-the-house.

52 camouflage Camouflage 84 Wardour Street, Soho, London W1 THE VENUE HAS OFFICIALLY CLOSEDThe owners of Camouflage, a nightclub on Wardour Street in Soho that has been part of London's prime entertainment strip since the '30s, made sure that their spot stood out a mile from its rivals when it swung open its double doors to an eager throng of revelers.

The space was drawn up by Sean Clarke (who also designed Soho's Pop and Bar 101) and formerly housed the K-Bar, Sweet Suite and Clique. It is a comfortably sized underground cavern of light and stark minimalism, with a raised VIP section and two separate bars. The vibe is evocative of Duvet, in Manhattan. A unique lighting system has been designed to bathe the white room in a spectrum of alternate colours. The discreet doorway entrance at street level leads guests through a monochrome take on an army tunnel before ending with a flight of steps that leads to the throng of 450 revellers on the dancefloor.

This neon-lit zen interior immediately intoxicates bringing out voyeuristic instincts. In an age when denizens of boites are grappling with ill-décor Mamalanji`s visionaries Milan and Manji have come up trumps. The zip codes of SW3, 7 and 10 are already magnetically being pulled to this blissful dance sanctuary.

Royalty such as Prince William and his belle du moment Kate Middleton have already been greeted by the graceful Geeta Dutt. Mamalanji is stealing the thunder from other lounge lizard Kings Road retreats. A selective entry criterion sagaciously veers the club towards a members-only repertoire. Add to this generous a helping of sun-drenched Eurocats with their sky scraping heals on a steady diet of designer-label consumption.

Mamalanji injects a long-overdue jagged spark of originality and uniqueness to a heavily banal clubbing industry. The minimalist-chic interior genre is a fresh spin. In terms of service, design, décor and ambience Mamalanji is quantum leaps ahead. London socialites can only hope that this is an incredibly exciting taster for what is to become of London's future club-land.

63 astor_bar_and_grill Astor Bar and Grill 20 Glasshouse Street, London W1B 5DJ THE VENUE HAS OFFICIALLY CLOSED

If you mourned the loss of the Atlantic Bar & Grill six months ago, you’ll be happy to hear that acclaimed restaurateur Luke Johnson has opened Astor Bar & Grill, affine dining and art expo destination, in its place. Boasting the same art deco glamour of the previous venue, Astor features a 200-cover restaurant under the helm of head chef Philip Cooper (ex-executive chef at Mirabelle), a 400-sq ft bar and art by masters including Grayson Perry, Damien Hirst, Peter Blake, Abigail Lane and Marc Quinn. A true London destination.

65 the_cuckoo_club The Cuckoo Club Swallow Street, London, W1B 4EZ When Christian Slater is not flying one over the cuckoo's nest, a la Nicholson, he waltzes into 5000 square feet of delectable dissipation at Cuckoo's, attuning his eardrums to the rock hybrids blasting majestically out of speakers with sonic delights such as The Libertines and Kasabian spun together with sprinkles of The Rolling Stones for good measure.

Seduced further by resident Dom T`s smooth vibes, guests can head up from subterranean bliss to the ground floor restaurant only to savour head chef Andy Glover`s concoctions such as Beef Celeriac Dauphinoise or Chocolate Vinsanto Fondant.

Delightfully teasing the tongue, and not the wallet, Bar Manager Mark Fairweather and menu guru Jussi Willehard Kalmi make sure to engender mouth froth with ultimate thirst-quenchers such as "The Roadrunner"- a splash of Tequila, vanilla pods, Canadian maple syrup and free range egg white or the "Purple Lady"-a mélange of Tanqueray gin, Martini rose vermouth and orange bitters.

If purple ladies don't tickle your fancy then maybe ladies such as Jemma Kidd, Elle McPherson and Alice Temperley would as they diplomatically engage in their ambassadorial roles as high representatives of a salubrious membership committee. Jump into the fray iconoclasts such as Bryan Ferry, Patrick Cox, Freddy Windsor and Joseph Fiennes and the corps diplomatique is ready ! Interior décor firm BlackSheep scintillates mirrors, ebony stands, purple armchairs glittering under dazzling LED ceilings with violet lights. - Ozer - April 2006

67 opium Opium 1a Dean Street, Soho, London W1D 3RB Opium can be described as a sumptuous venue – with velvet swathes you could drown in, Southeast Asian antique tapestries, mini warrior statuettes and warm woods – is almost worth ditching those lefty credentials for.

Celebs and shakers soothe away those wearying PR days with Opium’s low-level aural fluff and soporific lighting, becoming enlivened at around ten as the bass picks up and sozzled, flirty thirty-somethings spill out of the restaurant area at the rear of the venue.

83 ministry_of_sound Ministry of Sound 103 Gaunt Street, London SE1 6DP The most famous clubbing brand in the world, this club-of-the-hour remains hot after all this time. Once inside, it’s as far removed from the days of raves as it is possible to get, although the sound is gobsmackingly great, it's even been said that DJs play there just to hear what their records really sound like.

After a recent rejig of the club's lavish VIP area, it will provide the same service, if not better, than what we have been accustomed to in the West End clubs. With 9 tables in the VIP area and 4 in the Lounge area, there is also an exclusive viewing gallery that overhangs the main room and a private balcony that overlook 's the main bar so VIPs will still be in touch with what's going on inside the club.

Filled with music industry insiders, internationally known DJ's and socialites alike, the VIP room is the ultimate place to engage in some of the best house music by some of the best DJ’s in the world.

93 the_red_rooms The Red Rooms 4 Great Queen Street, Holborn, London, WC2B 5DG London’s newest hotspot opens its doors on the evening of Saturday 8th December 2007, at the old site of the legendary Browns Nightclub.

Draped in dark red velvet and spread over three floors – think Moulin Rouge!

The ethos of the venue is based on a return to good customer service … a great party crowd (fuelled by very reasonable drink prices!), in fantastic surroundings,

having unpretentious fun until the early hours of the morning.

Red Rooms is THE definitive alternative to the West End’s overly hyped, over priced, moody faced venues.
