Umbaba
15-21- Ganton Street London W1F

Located on London's Ganton Street, this unique bar and club is inspired by the magic and mystery of the African continent. Visitors are drawn into an imaginary world where the environment embraces the heart and soul of Africa, and all inhibitions are left behind. The bold designs are created by interior architects Satmoko Ball. Inspiration has been drawn from traditional African art and the ancient archaeological sites of Western Africa. Earthy colours, stone structures and a unique light installation designed by Regis Vidal, add to the overall authenticity of Umbaba. The colonial VIP safari tent offers complete seclusion from the rest of the Republic. Draped in light fabrics and lit by the soft light of candles, it is the final stage of the fantasy journey through Umbaba. Like a mysterious African country, Umbaba offers a range of enviroments, tastes and sounds. From the exotic African-inspired food, the flowing cocktails, to the deep rhythmic music, Umbaba is a continuous journey into the unknown

the first time i went to umbaba it was a thursday night whenit first opened, and i must say that i had a great time there, but i went on saturday night it was an asian invasion! every second person was asian, i like to go to a club with a good mix not just one specific type of people. i went with a few girls and some to the guys there just kept harrasing them even when they clearly told them t go away, iam sorry but umbaba isnt what it usd to be, i think ill be taking my money to chelsea.

Umbaba is a brilliant night club, I was there on Saturday last weekend and the atmosphere was hot. They had a bongo player who played to most of the music all night long which gave the club an even better atmosphere. Umbaba is sexy! If you haven;t been, definitely go!

I had a great time at Umbaba when I went with some friends several weeks ago. We went on a Friday so it wasn't that busy, we didn't have to queue for long and everyone was respectful and courteous. One of the girls even let us sit in a reserved area when the party who was supposed to show up, didn't. The drinks are a bit pricey, but what isn't in this area? If you're looking for a good time, you have to be ready to spend the cash. I'd definitely like to see the club on a busier day, maybe I'll come back on a Saturday. We had a nice time!

I went to Umbaba about a month ago for a friend's bachelorette party and we had a fantastic time. I wouldn't go to Umbaba on a regular night, but on Saturday night when you want to go out and are prepared to spend some money (it was 20 quid at the door, plus all the drinks inside), this is definitely a great place to go. We didn't queue at all, as we had a reserved area and were all on the list...the door staff were great...and the waitresses were wonderful to us as well. The service was fast, and the drinks kept coming! There's RnB music playing which was good, because we were able to dance, unlike in those clubs where all they blast is techno 'music' all night. I really enjoyed the crowd, everyone was beautiful and looked like they were having a great time as well. Go to Umbaba. go go go.

I came down to London for the weekend to visit some friends and they took me to Umbaba. We had a fantastic night. The guy at the door was really nice to us and went out of his way to make sure that we had a good night. The drinks were a bit pricey but that should be expected of a Central London club. It was a good mix of people and music and we loads of fun on the dance floor. We sat down in a reserved section (the party wasn't there) and nobody asked to get up or anything so that was nice. Overall it was a great night, and I'd definitely come back to Umbaba next time I'm in London.

Be careful about this place. The night I was there two big bloody fights happened and I got hurt. Strongly recommend to avoid this place.

great night, apart from the charmless, arrogant girl on the door. it was a friends birthday and he'd paid a substantial amount for a table, but we were still treated like cr*p by her. once we got in service was top notch tho, good music etc.

Went to Umbaba on Saturday and it was great. The women were super fit and there was a lot more women then men. Drinks were a joke - super pricey even by London standards and not much choice. However, as mentioned the women were of a high standard so overall very good. Oh and the bouncers were fairly civil as well.

Went to Umbaba for a birthday party on Sat4th Feb, was good when we got in there, being able to walk around and check the decor and private booths out. Ended up talking to lots of different people, women were more friendlier than the men but it was quality and i will be going back !!!

this is a very good club no doubt about it.... abit pricy, but non the less a good club. the only thing that spoild it was that there was a total idiot at the entrance!!!... he was very rude and arrogant and he could'nt give me a stright asnwer why he didnt want to let me in, some thing about the way i look or dress!??? (thank god i have connections). anyway i got to say i love the decore (because i like clubs with themes) and there was loads of good looking people there too. P.s. like other people said that you will have to bring a good amount of cash along!

went to Umbaba for the first time last night and can't say anything bad about the place apart from how crowded it was you couldn't really dance without being knocked every few seconds. it is full of good looks and money so if you want a good night you defo need to take alot of cash! or have connections!!! much prefered it to china whites, its alot more refreshing and the people are alot less pretentious. highly recommend getting a table if you can as it really does come in handy especially when it gets overly packed! overall though fantastic night and will definintly be returning!

After a fantastic night in London with my two best mates we made our way to Umbabas. The treatment on arrival was excellent and the door supervisors were extremely professional and cooperative. The layout of the place was great, if not slightly confusing to start with. I highly recommend visiting the VIP area. This is quite clearly the greatest corner in the galaxy. The girls are close by to top up your glass and there is a sofa that can only be described as a wall to wall bed !! The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. This does however come at a price. I would definitely say that in order to have an awesome night you will need a healthy bank balance. I would say you would go through £200 in there no problems at all......Start saving now !!!

I've been to Umbaba a few times now, and i much prefer it to most other clubs in London (cc, cafe de paris & places like that). You defenately have a better time in VIP but the rest is quite good too. In my opinion better than Chinawhite and I prefer the decor too. The music can get slightly tedeous...but we loved the bongo guy. Overall good atmosphere, good looking people...good night out.

I like to visit new up and coming places so decided to book a table at Umbaba with a few friends. The decor is unique and refreshing and gives the place a good feel. Sadly, there is so much pretentiousness surrounding this place that you cant escape, from the time you phone in to book a table to when you’re inside trying to enjoy your night. I'm gald I've been here once to appreciate the effort that’s gone in to the design, but when a small group of people spend in excess of several hundred pounds you expect to feel a better welcome from the staff if not from the people inside who seem to think they’re extremely important. It’s a shame that a new concept club is spoiled by staff who think they’re doing you a favour by letting you in to spend your money. Hopefully they’ll employ some more experienced people who remember who the customer is! You know what to expect….

Liked the atmosphere and our hostess(s) took very good care of us. Music excellent and had a great time dancing with friends however the layout of the tables isn't the best as you may have people who are on dancing area falling on to your table due to congestion. However for what was billed as one of if not the hottest places in London the eye candy left a lot to be desired. But I noticed that was kind of a general theme for the city compared to Manhattan. So go if you want to have fun with your friendsbut not to necessarily meet any hot women.

Came over to london for the week and ended up here on a saturday night. We all had a fantastic time- music was great, people were great and the atmosphere was not at all as expected (stand-off people watchers who are just there to pose).... All in all a great club that can rival chinawhite any day!!!

Been in Canada for a while and now back in London for a few years. Have no idea where is hot and what is not so went Umbaba on saturday for a look around. Had an amazing night and definately one of the best places i have been to in London in the last few years. Right now it has a good mix of rich twat types and young fun people. The music was good, the bongo man was great, the drinks were so London (read: not very well made) and normal prices for this type of place. If you are a regular on the scene in London, then you will not be reading this/already been there but if you haven't give it a go. It is pretty well hidden but still easy to get to. The people are still friendly and the atmosphere and people were all great. Make sure you have about £200 per person for a decent night there and you will agree with me. If you do not have much cash, do not know the owners/doorman, or are really ugly i do not recommend any new, still good clubs in london like Umbaba. sorry but that is just the way it is. By this time next year these comments will be about how shit the place is, but that is london for you, london has the most new clubs opening per week and each ones shelf life depends on the clientelle. Umbaba is apparantly the new chinawhite so it may last a year or so before jordan and jodie make it a second home. this could be like the good old days of london town for me (read: 2 years ago) see you all at the bar ;-)
